About the Journal

The main purpose of the science of computational linguistics is the development of computer programs for solving linguistic problems. The main tasks of computational linguistics are  teaching languages, testing the knowledge, editing texts and developing machine translation programs.

From the 50s of the XX century, the terms “machine translation” and “machine linguistics” began to be used in linguistics. It was a proof that computational technology, a great invention of the century, had entered also into linguistics. Machine translation or automatic translation refers to the rapid translation of the text from one language to another with the help of computer programs or electronic dictionaries. The founders of machine translation were engineers and mathematicians, and later also linguists took an active part in this field. Thus, the ideas of machine translation played an important role in the development of theoretical and applied linguistics all over the world.  After the emergence  of the theory of formal grammar, the main attention was paid to creating a model of language and its specific aspects. These aspects of language were developed in the science of mathematical linguistics, which in turn became the foundation for the emergence of the science of computational linguistics. So, on this basis, a new direction of linguistics, computer linguistics, and a number of theoretical and practical directions of linguistics have emerged.

The main tasks of computational linguistics include:

  1. a) language teaching;
  2. b) testing the knowledge;
  3. c) automatic editing of texts in various ways;
  4. g) development of software for machine translation;
  5. d) statistical analysis of dictionaries and texts in the computer.

    These are also specific areas of computational linguistics. The scope of research on computational linguistics abroad and in Russia is wide. Today, computer linguistics has developed also in Uzbekistan, and many applications, mobile applications, linguodidactical platforms, electronic dictionaries for translators, and most importantly, the national corps and its internal corps are being created.
